The recent release of the state’s first whole-of-Government strategy for digital industry and service transformation, Our Digital Future, is focussed on creating a more vibrant digital economy and enhancing the integration of Government services into more efficient and safe, contemporary systems.
The next step for Our Digital Future comes into force today, with seven State Government departments to begin transitioning financial systems to one of the safest Australian cloud platforms, under a major digital transformation initiative.
Minister for Science and Technology Michael Ferguson said the initiative will deliver more efficient processes and will progress our goal of delivering more Government services online for Tasmanians who wish to use them.
“Transitioning seven Government departments to the cloud will provide a foundation for us to emerge from COVID-19 stronger and will improve the resilience and safety of Government held data and our cyber security footing,” Minister Ferguson said.
“Our Digital Future sets a clear agenda for whole-of-Government digital transformation and more strategic use of technology including cloud services. I’m pleased to see departments realise these opportunities and embrace the future so quickly.”
The Government has partnered with Australian company TechnologyOne to host data on its platform, ensuring that it remains within Australia. The company is the only global enterprise software company to achieve an IRAP (Information Security Registered Assessors Program) assessment, meeting the standards required to host data classified up to, and including, PROTECTED level.
CEO of TechnologyOne, Ed Chung, said all seven Tasmanian agencies will be on the cloud by 2022.
“As an Australian company we are in a unique and trusted position to work in partnership with State, Federal and Local Government agencies as they increase the digital services they provide on behalf of their communities,” Mr Chung said.
“COVID-19 has seen a renewed driver for all Governments to embrace Software as a Service (SaaS)– not only to support remote work, but also because it provides peace of mind.
“This is an historic move for Tasmania, and TechnologyOne is proud to be part of it.”
The seven agencies involved in the transformation project include the Department of Premier and Cabinet, the Department of Treasury and Finance, the Department of Education, the Department of State Growth, the Department of Primary Industries Parks, Water and Environment, the Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management and the Department of Justice.
