Discover Hunter’s Historical Past with Local Authors

Cessnock City Council is inviting members of the community to attend a special event to meet local authors Greg and Sylvia Ray at Kurri Kurri Library in February.

The event will take place on Wednesday February 14, 1pm-2pm where you will have the opportunity to hear stories about the authors favourite pictures from their extensive collection, including their latest publication, ‘Then Again.’

The local history and photography enthusiasts are authors of thirteen books featuring collected historical photos of Newcastle and the Hunter region and will be taking attendees on a journey through time with their incredible Photo Time Tunnel, a vast collection of historical images curated by Greg and Sylvia since 2010.

Greg Ray, a former Newcastle Herald journalist has a wealth of knowledge about the history of the Hunter region. During his time at the paper, he covered many reporting rounds, won numerous awards and was a finalist twice in the National Walkley Awards.

Sylvia Ray has an honours degree in fine arts from the University of Newcastle and is an accomplished artist with a strong interest in photography, ceramics, print making, and Arts-Health.

Library Coordinator Rose-marie Walters says this is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the historic past of the Hunter Region through the art of photography.

“This event is your chance to explore the visual tapestry of Newcastle and the Hunter through the lens of local storytellers.” said Ms Walters

Copies of their books will be available for purchase and signing at the event.

Bookings for this event are essential and can be made from the adults’ section of the ‘What’s On’ page https://www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/libraries/Whats-on or by calling Cessnock Library on 4993 4399 or Kurri Kurri Library at 4937 1628. Bookings can also be made via the front desks at the libraries.
