A disqualified driver has been charged following a pursuit with police in the Sutherland Shire overnight.
Just after 9.15pm (Wednesday 27 May 2020), a Toyota Rav4 was seen travelling along Gymea Bay Road, Gymea, before stopping at a service station at the intersection of President Avenue.
Officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command pulled in and activated their lights and sirens, and the Toyota accelerated away, travelling east along President Avenue.
The Toyota stopped on Sylvania Road, and as officer’s approached the vehicle, it drove off, pursued along Forest Road before attempting to turn right into Quest Avenue, where it mounted the gutter and crashed into the fence of a nearby home.
The driver ran off and police established a perimeter. A 30-year-old man was arrested shortly after on Blackwood Street and taken to Sutherland Police Station.
During a search of the Toyota, officers allegedly seized cannabis, tools, and a small tomahawk with a knife handle.
The man was charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, not give particulars to owner of damaged property, supply cannabis – indictable, possess housebreaking implements, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit and breach of bail.
He has been refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court today (Thursday 28 May 2020).
