Bayside Council is hosting a panel discussion with some of the authors featured in Don’t Ask the Trees for Their Names, a collection of stories reflecting on migration, community and identity from nine Arab-Australian women.
The panel discussion will feature three of those contributing authors – Mary Hanoun-Khilla, Nouha Francis, and Hend Saab.
Mary Hanoun-Khilla was born in Wad-Medani, Sudan, and migrated to Australia with her family. She has worked extensively in refugee settlement and rehabilitation.
Nouha Francis was born in Al-Hakour, a small village in Akkar, North Lebanon, and migrated to Australia with her husband. She is the Coordinator of Khair Jalis Literary Association, a cultural and social group for Arab women.
Hend Saab was born in Yaroun, South Lebanon, and migrated to Australia as a newlywed. She has worked in clinical and group psychology, and is a leader in developing mindfulness practices for mental health and well-being.
The event will be moderated by Laila Bazzi.
Laila Bazzi is a finance professional of Lebanese and Palestinian heritage currently working in the arts industry. She is a core member of the Coalition of Women for Justice and Peace, a grassroots collective dedicated to justice and human rights in advocating for the safety and dignity of all people.
