At the Council Meeting on Monday 22 June 2026, Georges River Council adopted the Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2026-2030. The updated plan reflects the community’s evolving priorities for a more inclusive, accessible and equitable future.
The DIAP 2026-2030 guides Council’s long-term goals to create a fair and inclusive community. It focuses on the four key areas identified by people with disability as being of primary importance to them:
Developing positive community attitudes and upholding the rights of people with disability.
Creating liveable and safer communities.
Supporting access to meaningful employment and independence.
Improving access to mainstream services through improved systems and processes.
The DIAP was co-designed with the community, drawing on feedback from people with disability, their carers and families, service providers and community advocates. Consultations to develop the draft DIAP included:
Community consultation from Council’s Your Say platform.
Targeted consultation with Council’s Access and Inclusion Advisory Committee.
Support from the peak body in disability best practice, Physical Disability Council of NSW (PDCN).
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, “More than 130 people contributed to shaping the DIAP. Importantly, over 43% of participants identified as people with disability, ensuring lived experiences was central to its development”.
“In the Georges River area, around 5% of residents require assistance in their day-to-day lives. The DIAP reflects our commitment to listening to our community and removing barriers so everyone can participate and live independently.”
“We are proud to work alongside our community to build a more inclusive Georges River, where everyone feels valued, respected and included.”
