Shellharbour City Council invites the community to make a submission on its draft Open Space and Recreation Needs Study and Strategy. It will be on public exhibition 15 January to 26 February.
The document is a blueprint for outdoor space and recreation planning up to 2030 and beyond and provides clear understanding of the city’s current open space, recreation, and aquatic facilities. It examines the amount and variety of space, recreation facilities, current usage, participation rates, issues, and trends.
The strategy will provide direction for the future management of active and passive recreation areas, parks and reserves, sports fields and aquatic facilities managed by Council.
Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba encouraged the community to read the documents and make submissions.
“The draft strategy reflects community and Council aspirations, which will guide future investment and funding allocation, over the short, medium and long term,” Cr Saliba said.
Information gained from the community was used to prepare the draft. It is important that people now have their say on the finalised draft document.
“Council decided to place the draft strategy on exhibition longer than usual period of 28 days, due to the festive break and school holidays. Hopefully this will provide more time for people to make submissions.”
