Drugs seized; men charged with commercial drug supply at Bankstown, NSW

A man will appear in court today charged by strike force detectives over the alleged commercial supply of prohibited drugs in Sydney’s south west.

In May 2020, investigators from Bankstown Police Area Command established Strike Force Polar to investigate drug supply, manufacture and cultivation throughout the local area.

Following inquiries, detectives, with assistance from South West Metropolitan OSG, executed a search warrant at a house on Hillcrest Avenue, Mount Lewis, about 6.45am yesterday (Wednesday 13 May 2020).

A 47-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Bankstown Police Station.

During the search, police seized 1.2kg of GBL, 6.2g of methylamphetamine, heroin, cannabis, cash, mobile phones and other items relevant to the investigation.

The man was charged with supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity), supply prohibited drug, and five counts of possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court today (Thursday 14 May 2020).

On Tuesday (12 May 2020), strike force detectives executed two search warrant at houses on Batt Street and Rod Street, Sefton, where police allegedly located hydroponic set-ups.

Officers seized more than 300 cannabis plants and more than 450g of chopped cannabis.

A 60-year-old man was arrested at the Rod Street house and taken to Bankstown Police Station where he was charged with cultivate prohibited plant (large commercial quantity), supply prohibited drug, found upon drug premises, and possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail and appeared before Campbelltown Local Court yesterday (Wednesday 13 May 2020), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 8 July 2020.

The estimated potential street value of the drugs seized over both days is $670,000.
