Police Minister Mark Shelton has embarrassingly given Tasmanians an early insight into this afternoon’s Liberal Government Budget, showing the Premier has adopted the same formula that has failed Tasmania for the past six years.
Shadow Treasurer David O’Byrne said Mr Shelton’s leaking of a government propaganda video more than three hours ahead of the delivery of Peter Gutwein’s Budget showed the Liberals will continue to fail Tasmanians into the future and leave too many Tasmanians behind.
“Instead of demonstrating vision and forward thinking, we have got more of the same from Peter Gutwein,” Mr O’Byrne said.
“This is the most important budget since the second world war and yet the Premier will deliver one of the most insipid, failing to meet the challenge before us.
“It’s the same con job that’s been perpetrated by Peter Gutwein every year for the past six years when the government announced record infrastructure spending and then every year they have failed to deliver.
“Tasmania’s recovery from the COVID pandemic has been entrusted to failed former Health Minister Michael Ferguson who destroyed the health system.
“Mr Gutwein will this afternoon promise a surplus by 2022-23 when he knows that is just unbelievable.
“We have the worst employment record in the country after Victoria, a state that suffered the hardest of lockdowns. And our jobs market continues to deteriorate.
“It’s code for massive cuts to services going forward. “That – along with Michael Ferguson at the driver’s wheel to steer us out of the pandemic – should alarm each and every Tasmanian.”
