EOIs Open For Next Instalment Of Lightbox Exhibitions

Darwin City Council

Expressions of Interest are now open for local artists to apply to showcase their work through the next instalment of City of Darwin’s Lightbox Exhibitions series.

The Lightbox Exhibitions feature the work of Darwin creatives, with artworks on display in lightboxes located in the Smith Street Mall, at the entrance of the Dragonfly carpark, and outside Nightcliff Pool.

Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the program provided an opportunity for City of Darwin to partner with local creatives from a range of artforms and to support and promote Darwin’s vibrant arts sector.

“We are very proud of the Lightbox Exhibitions, as they offer a unique and compelling way of showcasing artworks from a range of artists as well as contributing to the vibrancy of our city,” Mr Vatskalis said.

“City of Darwin is committed to providing opportunities to support local creatives, including emerging artists, those in the middle of their careers, artists with diverse abilities, and fully established artists.

“The Lightbox Exhibitions program is a great opportunity for independent creatives to elevate their work and to encourage community dialogue around topical themes,” he said.

City of Darwin runs two exhibitions per year, with artworks on display for six months at a time.

This round of EOIs will be for exhibitions installed between September 2024 and September 2025.

The current series, Gestures, led by Arts Access Darwin features works by visual artists with disability from the Free Space Studio collective, and will be on display until the end of August 2024.

Previous exhibitions have included works by Darwin Street Art Festival alumni, Charles Darwin University arts and media students, and comic-based artists from Wild North Arts.

City of Darwin welcomes EOI submissions for traditional visual art forms, photography, graphic and digital artforms and printmaking.

Successful applicants will receive up to $8,500 and support from City of Darwin’s Arts and Cultural Development team.

EOIs are open until Friday 3 May 2024.
