The Beaumaris area is projected to have a shortfall of kindergarten places soon, with increased demand following the introduction of additional free kinder hours.
Currently, Beaumaris community kindergartens are all single room. Without expanding facilities, local children may not be able to access community kindergarten places close to home in coming years.
Initial feasibility studies have found that the Jack & Jill Kindergarten and Beaumaris Children’s Playhouse site on Grandview Avenue has good potential for integration and enhancement to meet future needs.
Redevelopment of this site could provide local families with an accessible, fit-for-purpose children’s centre, more kindergarten places, a maternal and child health service, and a multi-purpose space for social connections.
All potential redevelopment pathways would incorporate current service providers, such as the Jack & Jill Kindergarten and Beaumaris Children’s Playhouse, while respecting the mid-century heritage of the existing building.
This project is in the early phases of exploring opportunities and working with key stakeholders. No decisions have been made.

We’re committed to improving the provision and accessibility of early year’s services in Bayside through our Early Year’s Infrastructure Plan.
Recent renewal projects include the North Brighton Children’s Centre and Hurlingham Park Preschool in Brighton East. The finishing touches are almost complete at Fern Street Children’s Centre, in Black Rock, which will open for kinder next year.
