Wait times for practical driving tests will be reduced with 13 additional driving examiners being deployed across Queensland in the coming months.
Testing capacity will increase by more than 1,500 additional driving tests each month, significantly improving access and convenience for Queenslanders.
The additional examiners include three cross-trained positions to deliver services in the Bundaberg and Toowoomba regions, while the other examiners will be allocated across South-East Queensland.
The additional frontline staff are part of the Crisafulli Government’s plan to become Australia’s most customer-focused government, after being ignored during the past decade by the former Labor Government.
In Queensland, 196,779 driving tests were delivered between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026.
As demand for driving tests has continued to grow due to Queensland’s expanding population and changes to the Federal Government’s Recognised Country Scheme, the Crisafulli Government is investing in initiatives to improve service availability and reduce customer wait times.
A range of initiatives are also being rollout alongside recruitment to reduce wait times, including:
- Rostering existing driving examiner trained staff to regions where demand is high
- Improving safety measures to improve service delivery, and
- Continuing to offer Saturday testing at select locations.
Minister for Customer Services and Open Data Steve Minnikin said the Crisafulli Government was committed to ensuring improved and more convenient access to driving tests for customers.
“Driving is a critical skill for many Queenslanders, whether it’s for work, study, or family commitments. That’s why we’re taking decisive action to ensure people can access driving tests in a timely manner,” Minister Minnikin said.
“To meet the growing demand, we’re implementing a range of measures which will boost the State’s testing capacity by more than 1,500 tests per month.
“These changes are about giving people the freedom and flexibility they need to get on with their lives.
“Whether it’s a young person gaining independence, a parent juggling work and family commitments, or someone starting a new job, we’re making it easier for Queenslanders to get to where they need to be.”
