Failure to deliver Clyde North fire station a dangerous broken promise

Liberal Party Victoria

The Allan Labor Government’s failure to deliver essential emergency service infrastructure in Clyde North could potentially lead to tragedy after a significant residential fire occurred across the road from where Labor in 2017 promised to build a fire station.

The Sunday morning fire left one man in his early 30s in hospital, eight garages destroyed, and three homes damaged – all less than 400 metres away from Labor’s undelivered Clyde North Fire Station.

Clyde North has been left without crucial emergency infrastructure seven years after Labor first promised a fire station for the area. Three years after the State Government purchased the parcel of land, construction is yet to begin as Victoria faces record state debt heading toward $200 billion.

Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Richard Riordan, said: “Labor can’t manage money and Victorians are paying the price.”

“The Allan Labor Government must act immediately and get the emergency services infrastructure that they promised built, so Victorians aren’t put at risk.”

Member for Berwick, Brad Battin, said: “Sadly, we are no longer talking about what could happen, but what is happening due to the absolute failure and incompetence of years of the Labor government’s inaction in Clyde North.

“Residents on Sunday morning watched their properties go up in flames while also staring directly from their street at the empty block of land Labor promised their fire station would stand- it’s absolutely inexcusable.”
