Fatal vehicle crash involving train at Armidale, NSW

A woman has died after a crash between a vehicle and a country passenger train in the state’s Central West.

About 5.25pm today (Wednesday 4 August 2021), emergency services responded to reports of a crash involving a Honda Jazz motor vehicle and a train at a level crossing on Old Gostwyck Road, Armidale.

The 83-year-old female driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, suffered fatal injuries at the scene.

Officers from New England Police District attended, secured a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

There were no reports of any persons on the train suffering any injuries.

The roadway and rail line are expected to remain closed until at least later this evening. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.
