The CFA has announced that its Fire Danger Period will lift at 1am on Monday, 4 April in Yarra Ranges, Maroondah, Manningham and Knox Council areas.

This means that, from Monday, 4 April, community members may burn off according to the rules for their area.

The Fire Danger Period prohibits community members from lighting fires in the open air unless they have a permit or meet strict requirements.

Rules for burning off after the Fire Danger Period

Outside of the Fire Danger Period, there are different rules for properties in Yarra Ranges under three property categories – Rural, Bushland or Urban.

In an urban area, for example, burning off is prohibited year-round. If you’re disposing of green waste, you should use a garden waste (green) wheelie bin, or take green waste to your local tip for a fee.

In bushland and rural areas, there are specific days where burning off is allowed, and strict requirements of when burning off can be done.

Once you’ve checked your burning off area and are planning a burn for after 4 April, you must register your burn with emergency services.
