Firearms seized and man charged in Footscray

Detectives from Maribyrnong Crime Investigation Unit have charged a man after seizing firearms and stolen property from an address in Footscray last Friday.

Police responded to reports of a man loitering in Broad Street about 6am on Friday, 23 June.

Officers spoke to the 35-year-old man and located an alleged imitation firearm in his possession.

He was arrested at the scene.

Investigators then executed a warrant at an address in Carmichael Street, Footscray West a couple of hours later.

Police subsequently seized a gel blaster firearm, homemade firearm and shotgun barrel, ammunition, stolen scooters, and suspected stolen identification from the property.

The Footscray West man was charged with prohibited person possess firearm, possess imitation firearm, manufacture firearms and numerous stolen property offences.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 3 July.
