First sod turns on $2.32 billion METRONET-linked project in Brabham

  • 3,000-home development will create estimated 1,900 direct and 5,900 indirect jobs
  • Land is currently under development with first 600 lots scheduled for release in 2020
  • Project expected to generate more than $2.3 billion in economic activity for WA
  • The Housing Minister Peter Tinley has turned the first sod on a Swan Valley land development that will create and support an estimated 1,900 direct jobs and 2,600 residential lots close to the future METRONET Whiteman Park Station.

Stage One of the Brabham Development – located just 20 kilometres from Perth’s CBD – will see about 600 lots developed close to the Whiteman Park Station, giving commuters much greater ease of public transport.

The development is a long-term, once in a generation project that is expected to eventually yield about 3,000 homes on 2,600 residential lots and create and support 1,900 direct and 5,900 indirect jobs. Economic activity associated with the project is estimated at $2.32 billion.

Planning for the surrounding infrastructure, including two public parks, two primary schools and a high school has already begun with much more to come.

Brabham is a joint partnership between Department of Communities, Peet Limited and the Perron Group.

The development supports the Government’s METRONET Social and Affordable Housing and Jobs Package and is expected to extend over more than 10 years.

As stated by Housing Minister Peter Tinley:

“Brabham will be a major transport-oriented development linking the Swan Valley to Perth and providing a significant boost to the State’s stock of affordable housing in Perth.

“A great deal of work has gone into its planning and I’m sure many WA families are eagerly awaiting the chance to realise their dream of home ownership in this area.

“The Brabham Development reflects the State Government’s vision for a more sustainable future for WA, with a focus on creating a sustainable community where resources are reused, recycled and restored.

“It also highlights the State Government’s focus on creating jobs and supporting activity that benefits the WA economy.”

“Innovative design and construction methods that will be integrated into new homes here will ensure Brabham’s reputation as a sought-after address in the Perth metropolitan area.”

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

“A significant benefit of the Brabham development will be its location near the future METRONET Whiteman Park Station on the long-awaited Ellenbrook line.

“Brabham will be a major transport-oriented development linking the Swan Valley to Perth and will interface with the Whiteman Park Station to provide commuters with ease of use.

“The community that grows with this new development will reap the benefits of the State Government’s key METRONET vision – a Morley-Ellenbrook Line that will create thousands of jobs and halve journey times for people needing to access the CBD.”
