First tenants move into new social housing in Brisbane’s north

  • Tenants have begun moving into new social housing homes in Alderley
  • Construction was recently completed on the 11-unit social housing project
  • Queensland Government provided more than $5 million for the project

The first tenants have begun moving into a new 11-unit social housing project in Alderley in Brisbane’s north.

The approximately $5 million project is being delivered by the Palaszczuk Government as it presses ahead with the largest concentrated investment in social and affordable housing in Queensland’s history.

The now tenanted project delivers six one-bedroom and five two-bedroom units and has supported 16 full-time equivalent construction jobs.

Construction is also underway on another $11.32 million social housing project in Alderley, which once completed will deliver another 20 social housing units for Queenslanders.

“In addition to projects being delivered by the Housing Investment Fund, we have also now reached an important milestone in our QuickStarts Qld program to deliver more social housing across the State.

“More than half of the 2,765 new social houses targeted by 2025 under this program have now been purchased or had contracts awarded for construction.

“Between 2012 and 2015 the former LNP Government led by Campbell Newman oversaw an overall reduction of 428 social homes in Queensland.”
