More than 100,000 flu doses have now been delivered across the State as we continue our efforts to get as many Tasmanians as possible to protect themselves against the flu and get vaccinated.
Influenza is emerging in Tasmania after two years and we want to ensure no one misses out on the chance to be vaccinated.
While GPs and pharmacies remain the primary provider of flu vaccinations, this flu season we are supporting the primary care sector to expand access, including areas without access to vaccination providers.
Dozens of pop-up clinics in rural and regional locations have taken place in recent weeks as part of our plan to maximise the number of people who receive the flu vaccine.
At these clinics, anyone aged five years and above can turn up on the day and be vaccinated for free, with no appointment required.
With winter approaching, I encourage Tasmanians to continue to roll up their sleeves and come forward to be vaccinated against influenza.
Along with our very high levels of vaccination against COVID-19 across the population, increasing our flu vaccination rates will offer even better protection against severe respiratory illness.
The vaccine also reduces the chance of catching and spreading the flu, which means those who are vaccinated may protect their family, friends and loved ones, and the wider Tasmanian community.
We also encourage vulnerable Tasmanians who are eligible for a flu vaccine through the National Immunisation Program to get vaccinated through their GP, or pharmacies (if over the age of 10).
Importantly, state-run vaccination clinics in Tasmania are now running as both flu and COVID-19 clinics. There is no interval required between a COVID-19 vaccine and flu vaccine, meaning you can receive both vaccinations at the same time.
These include our clinics at Launceston, Burnie, Devonport, Glenorchy and Hobart.
The clinic at Hobart’s PW1 on Sunday will continue its focus on critical workers and their families. Bookings are preferred, but walk-ins are also welcome.
The following clinics in rural and regional locations statewide will be running in the coming days.
- Miena, Great Lake Community Centre – 13 May, 10am-12pm
- Bothwell, Castle Hotel – 13 May, 2pm-4pm
- Margate Primary School– 14 May, 10am-12pm
- Woodbridge Hall – 14 May, 2pm-4pm
