Football Australia would like to send its congratulations and best wishes to Subway Socceroos’ midfielder, Tom Rogic, following the announcement of his retirement from professional football.
Rogic accumulated 53 caps and scored 10 goals for Australia after debuting for the senior national team as a 19-year-old during an international friendly against Korea Republic in November 2012.
Regarded as one of Australia’s most technically gifted midfielders, Rogic was a part of the squads for the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018™, AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019™ and FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017™.
Rogic scored 46 goals in 273 matches during a trophy laden career with Celtic FC, winning six Scottish Premierships, five cups and five league cups before leaving the Glasgow club at the end of the 2021/22 season.
Football Australia CEO, James Johnson thanked Rogic for his contribution to the Subway Socceroos.
“On behalf of Football Australia, I’d like to congratulate Tom on a wonderful career for the Subway Socceroos,” said Johnson.
“Tom made a significant contribution to the senior men’s national team for a decade and will forever be remembered as one of the most gifted midfielders this country has produced.
“We thank Tom for her service to the Subway Socceroos and wish him all the very best for the future,” concluded Johnson.
Rogic’s career began in 2012, with then Central Coast Mariners FC Head Coach, Graham Arnold handing the midfielder his professional debut.
Arnold oversaw Rogic’s early development on the Central Coast before he secured a move to Celtic FC the following year.
The now Subway Socceroos Head Coach was full of praise for the retiring midfielder.
“It’s incredible to see what Tom has gone onto achieve both here in Australia and abroad, I’m sure both he and his family will reflect on his achievements with immense pride,” said Arnold.
“He has been a wonderful servant to the Socceroos, and we are grateful for the contributions he made to the jersey.
“It’s been a pleasure to see Tom’s career for club and country unfold, and I wish him and his family all the very best as they embark on the next chapter of their lives,” concluded Arnold.
