Western Australia is open for business and eager to further develop relationships with Indonesia as part of the McGowan Government’s Asian Engagement Strategy, designed to create jobs and diversify the economy.
Asian Engagement Minister Peter Tinley will deliver this message when he addresses business leaders – including AirAsia Indonesia CEO Josephine Veranita Sinaga and Pertamina Board of Commissioners President Tanri Abeng – at the Indonesia Business Forum today.
Pertamina is Indonesia’s biggest State-owned oil and gas corporation.
The State Government is moving to maximise the significant economic potential of the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement signed in March 2019.

Next week, Mr Tinley will travel to Bali to present WA’s Asian Engagement Strategy 2019-2030 at the Australia Indonesia Business Conference. He will also deliver the presentation at a series of meetings in WA’s Indonesian Sister State of Surabaya, East Java.
The strategy informs WA’s partners across Asia of the State’s economic priorities and the approach currently underway to further strengthen relationships across the region.
It details a clear and comprehensive plan to increase trade and investment, and diversify WA’s economy.
Western Australia has multifaceted trade ties with Indonesia, including a Sister State relationship with Surabaya, East Java that will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2020.
The Minister will also attend a function later today hosted by Indonesia’s Consulate General, celebrating the 74th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia and the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between Indonesia and Australia.
As stated by Asian Engagement Minister Peter Tinley:
“The rapidly growing economy of Indonesia is a prime example of how WA’s economy and future prosperity is closely tied to Asia.
“Through activities such as the Indonesia Business Forum and my ministerial visit to Bali and Surabaya, the WA Government is clearly conveying its plan to establish deeper connections across Asia and identify mutually beneficial trade and investment opportunities.
“With initiatives such as the almost 30-year strong Sister State Agreement with Surabaya, East Java and vibrant two-way trade, WA has a longstanding and dynamic relationship with Indonesia that we intend to further strengthen.
“The Indonesia Business Forum is part of Festival Indonesia at Elizabeth Quay from October 25-27 and I encourage all Western Australians to get involved.”
