Geelong Highway Patrol officers have detected four drug drivers this morning.
Officers intercepted a JEEP station wagon in Waitara Grove, Norlane during a routine intercept about 7.30am.
It’s alleged the disqualified learner driver underwent a roadside drug test which returned a positive result.
The 33-year-old Norlane man’s vehicle was impounded for a period of 30 days at a cost of $1115.
He will face court at a later date in regard to drug driving and drive whilst disqualified.
About an hour later, officers intercepted a second JEEP station wagon on Geelong Ring Road, Lovely Banks.
The driver underwent a roadside drug test which returned a positive result.
The 40-year-old Bell Park woman was issued with an infringement notice of $555 and her licence was suspended for six-months.
Officers intercepted a Toyota sedan on Princes Highway, Geelong North about 9.40am.
The disqualified driver underwent a roadside drug test which returned a positive result.
The 45-year-old Norlane woman had her car impounded for a period of 30 days at a cost of $1425.
She will face court at a later date for drug driving and drive whilst disqualified offences.
A fourth driver behind the wheel of a Toyota sedan, was pulled over on Shannon Avenue, Hamlyn Heights and returned a positive drug test about 11.30am.
The 62-year-old Bell Park woman will be summonsed to appear at a magistrate’s court for drug driving at a later date.
These vehicle intercepts and impounds are part of Operation Regal, a state-wide high visibility road policing operation over the King’s birthday long weekend.
The focus of the operation will be on excessive or inappropriate speed, impaired
driving, seatbelt non-compliance, driver distraction, disobeying traffic signs, and unauthorised driving.
Operation Regal will run for four days from 12.01am Friday 9 June to 11.59pm Monday 12 June.
