Funding boost to unlock development-ready land in the regions

  • Significant boost for regional land development in McGowan Government’s 2023-24 State Budget
  • Funding for Regional Development Assistance Program (RDAP) increased by $3 million per year
  • Funding to improve supply of development-ready land across regional Western Australia to help build strong and vibrant regions

The McGowan Government will increase funding to DevelopmentWA’s Regional Development Assistance Program by an extra $3 million per annum as part of the 2023-24 State Budget, to deliver more development-ready land across regional Western Australia.

The RDAP is an important program to facilitate projects in regional towns where there are either limited or no active private developers developing land for release to the local market.

The funding boost will take the annual total amount available under the RDAP from $4 million to $7 million over the next four years, helping to deliver greater supply of serviced land in the regions for residential, industrial, commercial and tourism uses.

The RDAP helps local authorities provide and develop projects to stimulate local economic and social activity. The increased funding almost doubles the RDAP’s ability to address costs and challenges associated with land development in regional WA.

Under the Local RDAP stream, local authorities can apply to DevelopmentWA for support to undertake land projects in their local government areas.

Approved projects are then delivered by DevelopmentWA with in-kind support or assistance from the local government.

The McGowan Government recently launched its $80 million fund to unlock a pipeline of new apartment developments in metropolitan Perth and worker accommodation in regional areas by removing key barriers to housing development.

Equal funding will be made available for metropolitan and regional areas, with $40 million to be invested in regional areas to address water, wastewater and electricity infrastructure constraints and support the delivery of much needed accommodation for essential workers.

The State Government’s $166 million Regional Land Booster program continues to support regional communities by unlocking residential and commercial land across the State.

“The Regional Development Assistance Program is a vital component to the supply of development-ready land in Western Australia’s regions.

“The increased funding is part of the McGowan Government’s commitment to stimulate economic and social growth in regional Western Australia to boost housing, business and WA’s growing tourism industry.

“Serviced land is the building block which facilitates the growth of strong and vibrant WA communities and businesses in our regions and the RDAP provides the roads, connects service infrastructure, and delivers lots ready for purchasers to build on.”
