The Australian Services Union NSW & ACT says the NSW Government’s increase in funding for not-for-profit community organisations is welcome relief for workers.
The NSW Government has today announced an indexation of 5.75 per cent will apply to Department of Communities and Justice and NSW Health funded programs from July.
“We welcome all increases in community sector funding and note that this is in recognition of the Fair Work Commission’s decision to lift Award rates for our sector by 5.75 per cent,” ASU NSW & ACT Secretary Angus McFarland said.
“It is important that when we win good pay increases for our Award at Fair Work that all governments then ensure funding is adequately lifted so that services can pass this onto their workers without impacting service delivery.
“This funding increase will help deliver better wages for community service workers who are on the frontline everyday supporting vulnerable people including those fleeing domestic violence, navigating homelessness, and accessing community mental health services.
“We will be seeking more detail from the government about how the funding increase will apply across the whole sector and how it will cover all expenses including superannuation increases.”
