Further developing Casino Drill Hall precinct

The southern gateway to Casino has an iconic public space for visitors and the local community to enjoy. The Casino Drill Hall precinct is an attractive destination for passing travellers and a unique hub for local events.

Federal Member for Page Kevin Hogan today announced a $405,000 Federal Government grant to further develop the site.

“I am excited to announce this funding to construct a key element of the precinct master plan,” Mr Hogan said.

“This funding will be used to build a viewing platform out and over the Richmond River.”

“It will complement the $2.5 million Drill Hall site that was opened late last year.”

Richmond Valley Council Mayor Robert Mustow said the revitalised site was something the whole community could be proud of.

“The community can be very proud of what has been achieved so far and I look forward to progressing with this next stage of the project,” Cr Mustow said.

“Set on the banks of the beautiful Richmond River, the Drill Hall site already includes a new visitor information centre, a contemporary amphitheatre, an RV and caravan carpark, extensive footpaths and landscaping, and the Northern Rivers Military Museum.”

Federal Local Government Minister Mark Coulton MP said the funding was part of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI) announced earlier this year.

“This program is designed to support councils deliver priority infrastructure projects to support jobs and help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic,” Minister Coulton said.

“I know how important it is to support communities who have faced the combined effects of drought, bushfires and now COVID-19, which is why we are backing projects to create employment and business opportunities.”

Richmond Valley Council received over $1 million as part of the LRCI program. $405,000 has been allocated for this project.
