Geelong Sustainability announces electric vehicle project

Community group Geelong Sustainability (GS) has joined forces with The Good Car Company in a project to introduce affordable electric vehicles (EV) to the region.

The GS Electric Vehicle Community Bulk Buy project, with The Good Car Company, will give people the chance to try before they buy in a series of events beginning later this month.

A formal launch, followed by a Show and Shine event will be capped off by letting interested motorists take a test drive.

GS president Vicki Perrett said “The Bulk Buy project will enable people to get into a low mileage electric vehicle at an affordable entry price”.

“The Good Car Company is partnering with us because of the enormous pent-up demand we see for EVs. A lack of understanding about them and their price and capabilities have been a barrier to uptake. The Good Car Company has delivered almost 200 vehicles through similar bulk buy projects elsewhere in Victoria, in the ACT and in Tasmania.

“Now it’s our turn to set an example in reducing emissions/pollution in an effort to decarbonise transport” Ms Perrett said.

A launch forum, which will be held at The Gordon TAFE and also online, will answer a broad range of questions to dispel myths and barriers including information about costs, warranties, servicing, battery life and “range anxiety” said Anthony Broese van Groenou, a co-founder and director of the Good Car Company.

“Good Car Company vehicles are significantly more affordable than any entry level new EV. As low mileage second hand electric vehicles, we ensure that they are thoroughly checked and battery tested, provide a warranty and return policy for peace of mind” he said.

It is important that people find the right EV for their needs. Each household should consider its own transport needs and budget and the Good Car Company provides educational videos to help in that process.

“Once people have had their questions answered they can get behind the wheel of an electric car such as the Nissan Leaf at the Show and Shine at Geelong Showgrounds early next month,” Mr Broese van Groenou said.
