Gene Maynard Band: Faith Thing

Underfoot Records

Acclaimed Singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist, Gene Maynard as a ‘session musician’ has recorded and released over 11 albums and 15 E.Ps, working as a drummer and percussionist with high profile artists such as The Dekroo Brothers, Lucky Starr, Roland Storm, Johnny Devlin, Dave Graney, Peter Walsh, Amanda Brown (Go Betweens), John Willsted , Edward Clayton-Jones , Bosco Bosanac and James Cruickshank and Ken Gormly . With his very own Gene Pool album out later this year, he is launching the single “A Faith Thing” on April 8 2022.

Playing along to music on pots and pans with wooden spoons is where many of us cease our musical journeys, this was also Gene’s beginning, however by age 10 Gene had evolved along the beat track to real drums, and began performing with his father, who was a pianist in the Netherlands and over the years extended his musical smarts beyond the kit, to include voice, guitar, harmonica, bass and piano.

Armed with a batch of his original songs Gene put himself at the centre of his own group, aptly named The Gene Maynard Band, and whilst rhythm provided the unifying umbrella for his material, GMB saw Gene step to the front of the stage, singing his own songs whilst playing guitar & harmonica. 2007 saw his debut E.P Shades of GMB released on the Underfoot Records Label, where Gene continues to work with Producer, Mic Hardwick.

With the last few years limiting live performances, as the world recalibrated, Gene has concentrated on finishing his new album, Gene Pool due to be released later this year.

The single, A Faith Thing is the second track of the album and speaks to the incredible amount of faith needed by musicians and performers to believe that there was a sustainable future for their creative practise.

The Gene Maynard Band have forged a unique and dynamic sound that delivers a blending of Rock, Rhythm & Blues with Jazz, Funk and Soul. Gene fronts his band on lead vocals, rhythm guitar and harmonica with Ken McCormack on lead guitar and vocals, Rick Conning on elec. bass and Pete Holmes on drums and vocal.
