Sunshine Coast hinterland dog lovers, exercise enthusiasts and fun-seeking kids are in for a treat, with council delivering upgrades to the much-loved Glass House Mountains District Park.
The project included extensive enhancements to the dog off leash area, the footpath network, playground, amenities and landscaping.
Sunshine Coast Council Division 1 Councillor Rick Baberowski said the four hectare parkland had something for everyone.
“This great space has gone from a privately owned site to one of the best district level parklands in a relatively few years. I’m sure the Lawrie’s would be delighted to see that it has indeed become ‘a central parkland to be utilised and appreciated by all the residents and visitors to Glass House’,” Cr Baberowski said.
“It’s a really impressive offering of open space, bushland and wetlands, a sheltered playground and picnic facilities.
“In 2018 we celebrated a $1 million refurbishment of the park in partnership with the State Government.
“This included a new playground, fenced dog off-leash area, picnic facilities, public amenities block and off street car park as well as improved landscaping.
“The latest works delivered new drainage to the fenced dog off-leash area, so taking your pooch to the park after it rains will now be a much more pleasant experience.
“Our youngest residents are sure to spend hours enjoying the innovative additions to the playground, with a new slide, rope climb and bridge and spinner ready for play.
“The footpath improvements will also make a big difference, offering greater accessibility and connectivity for walkers, runners and those who enjoy a more leisurely stroll.”
A new wayfinding sculptural and digital installation has been added to the entrance of the Glass House Mountains District Park.
The work, titled Molten by local artist James Muller, provides a gateway to the park and promotes cultural and scientific knowledge of the natural forces that created the Glass House Mountains.
Molten provides a strong placemaking statement that promotes the park as a valuable community asset to the region’s significant environmental and cultural heritage.
Cr Baberowski said the improvements were the fifth and sixth stages of the community’s master plan for Glass House Mountains District Park.
“This destination park is a drawcard to the Glass House district and a go-to hub for leisure and recreation,” he said.
“It’s a unique blend of our impressive natural environment and custom built-infrastructure which offers so many opportunities to enjoy the Sunshine Coast’s healthy, smart and creative lifestyle.”
