Glenroi skate park upgrade gets grant support

Orange Council

A skate park upgrade for Glenroi Oval, improved pathway lighting on on Wirraburra Wak and more shade cover at the Aquatic Centre are on the list for work this year, following the announcement of grants from the NSW Government.

Orange City Council will benefit from more than $530,000 under Round Five of the Stronger Country Communities Fund.

Orange Deputy Mayor Cr Gerald Power thanked the NSW Government for their support and said that he was excited to see council get on with the job of delivering for the people of Orange.

“The design of the new skate park in Glenroi Oval is now being created. We’re hoping it will offer something very distinct from the John Lomas Skate Park in Moulder Park, and that it will be a recreational space we’ll continue to develop and add to for years to come,” Cr Power said.

Orange City Council will add additional funding for the skate park upgrade.

“We’ll be talking with the neighbourhood to determine exactly what kind of lighting will be installed along Wirraburra Walk, so that it can work both for residents and pedestrians who use that path every day. We’re looking at two new shade shelters at the Aquatic Centre, one behind the diving pool which can double as shade for a marshalling area during swimming carnivals.”

“This grant will also let us build a fantastic new shade cover over the equipment at the Lady Dorothy Cutler playground.”

NSW Nationals Upper House MP Sam Farraway said that the funding would cover the costs of lighting at Wirrabarra Walk, Skate Park upgrades at Glenroi Oval and the installation of shade shelters at the Orange Aquatic Centre and Lady Dorothy Playground.

“The Stronger Country Communities Fund is providing Orange City Council with the necessary resources to improve the safety and quality of life for locals,” Mr Farraway said.

“From the installation of new lighting along Wirrabarra Walk, to constructing Stage 2 of the new skatepark at Glenroi Oval, our Liberal and Nationals Government are backing councils and providing safe and accessible recreational spaces for local families.”
