Golden Plains Shire set for more small business support

Victorian Small Business Commission

Golden Plains Shire’s small business owners will have more support to do business, now that the local council has signed on to the Small Business Friendly Council initiative.

The initiative is about making it easier to start, run and grow a business locally, and it’s being driven by the Victorian Small Business Commission (VSBC) with the 52 participating councils now on board.

Commissioner Judy O’Connell visited Bannockburn to meet with Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Helena Kirby and Council CEO Eric Braslis to talk more about the real benefits of signing up.

Cr Helena Kirby put pen to paper, committing the council to:

  • support new local business networks to get off the ground and existing ones to thrive
  • promote how the VSBC can help at this time
  • support small business owners to continue trading throughout disruptive council works
  • work towards streamlining approval processes for people looking to start a business in the Shire – and more.

Golden Plains Shire supports close to 3.5 thousand jobs across a range of industries, from agriculture – including wool and grain production and livestock – to construction and tourism.

The pledge is another way the council is backing their local business community, building on current supports such as their Special COVID-19 Financial Hardship Policy for businesses and their commitment to pay invoices from all local suppliers within 14 days, helping them to manage cashflow.
