Good grants news for Ipswich community groups

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Minister for Women and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence The Honourable Shannon Fentiman

Community organisations in Ipswich will share in over $223,000 from the latest round of grants from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF).

Member for Bundamba Lance McCallum shared the good news today and congratulated the 10 successful recipients.

“These grants deliver projects and services that really benefit our local community,” Mr McCallum said.

“This valuable funding will be used for projects such as a new playground at the Goodna Special School and new field lighting at the Western Spirit Football Club.

“The Palaszczuk Government is extremely grateful for the role the organisations play in supporting minority groups, creating opportunities, and fostering community spirit and connectivity.”

Member for Ipswich Jennifer Howard said across the State almost $11 million is going to 448 not-for-profit community groups in the latest round of the program.

“We want to support our fantastic community organisations to thrive,” Ms Lui said.

“It’s great to see the Blackstone Ipswich Cambrian Choir will be able to purchase whitegoods, the Ipswich West Special School will be able to buy a new coffee machine and St Edmund’s Swimming club will be able to purchase pool rollers and solar blankets thanks to these grants.”

Western Spirit Football Club Inc Club secretary, Malindi Varkevisser said that it received $35,000.00 for lighting to be installed at their home ground.

“The kids will be stoked. Having lighting in another field means that the club’s under 8s and 9s teams can continue to play night games,” she said.

“We have a lot of players and having that extra field for games also means we will no longer be overcrowded.”

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Shannon Fentiman reminded organisations that round 112 is open for applications until 31 October and that we are just one round away from 2022’s round 113 – the super round.

“Next year is an exciting year for the GCBF, with the first-time inclusion of a super round when grants of up to $100,000 will be up for grabs,” Minister Fentiman said.

“I can’t wait to see the fruits of the hard work of these community groups, with a little help from their GCBF grants, in the future.”
