August is designated National Family History Month across Australia and New Zealand and each year celebrates events and initiatives that promote family history, genealogy, and encourage community members to explore their family connections.

This year, join Goulburn Mulwaree Library for a series of lunchtime talks and workshops highlighting some fantastic local and state resources for family history researchers. Delve into history of Lake Bathurst, explore the Museums of History NSW website, learn how to understand and interpret your DNA test results, and discover the fantastic new online cemeteries showcase.

“Celebrating our ancestry and culture and understanding where we came from gives us a wonderful sense of connection and belonging, and there’s no better time to start delving into your family history than National Family History Month” said Library Manager Erin Williams. “Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced researcher, the Library’s upcoming events will help you on your research journey. You may even discover some unknown treasures in your own family story.”

The lunchtime talks are all free to attend and will provide fascinating information and resources for all local history researchers and family historians, new and experienced.

There are plenty of other ways to get involved in celebrating Family History Month too! Visit the Library any time throughout August to check out a special display featuring local studies resources and collection items, or head online to the Library’s Local History webpage and explore our online exhibitions, including a brand new spotlight feature on The Goulburn Cookery Book by Jean Rutledge.
