New figures show the Hodgman Liberal Government is all talk when it comes to reducing Tasmania’s alarming crime rates.
Figures from Tasmania Police show Tasmanian crime levels continue to increase, especially in the north and north west.
Shadow Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Shane Broad, said the Liberal Government’s tough talk on law and order was failing to produce results.
“Crime rates continue to rise in Tasmania with total offences statewide increasing by almost 5 per cent in the nine months to March compared to last year,” Dr Broad said.
“It has taken a succession of alarming crime statistics for the Police Minister Michael Ferguson to finally act and announce the allocation of more police officers throughout the state, but we need these new positions now.
“We are still waiting for the Minister to reveal how many of these new officers will be allocated to the high crime areas of the north and north west and when they will actually begin work.
“Meanwhile, as we wait, levels of fatigue among dedicated and hard-working officers continue to rise putting their health and safety at risk.”
