Grants for community food relief programs announced

Nic Street, Minister Community Services and Development

Thirty-five local food relief organisations will share in new Government funding to continue their vital work in supporting vulnerable Tasmanians.

In April, the Rockliff Liberal Government announced the $300,000 Tasmanian Community Food Relief Grants Program to assist organisations to provide much needed food relief to their communities to ensure sufficient delivery of food relief for those in need.

As part of the Food Relief to Food Resilience Action Plan 2023-2025, grants of up to $10,000 were available to eligible organisations providing either low-cost or free ready-to-eat meals and/or food hampers to Tasmanians in need.

There were 35 organisations approved for funding to continue delivering food relief over the next 12 months.

Minister for Community Services and Development, Nic Street, said the Government is building a safe and caring community and ensuring all Tasmanians have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious, quality food.

“We know there are Tasmanians out there who are doing it tough, and we want to support local community organisations throughout the State who are doing some incredible work on a voluntary basis to support food security,” he said.

“This funding will ensure Tasmanians in need have a place to go to get a hot meal, or a hamper to cook in their own home.”
