For the first time ever, all the presentations from the 2020 Northern Grains Research Updates and Farm Business Updates are available to growers, agronomists, farm advisers and researchers on-demand.

If you were busy harvesting, planting, or just generally on-farm when the 2020 Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) updates were beamed live across Queensland and New South Wales this year, you haven’t missed the opportunity to hear the latest research information.

For the first time ever, all the presentations from the 2020 Northern Grains Research Updates and Farm Business Updates are available to growers, agronomists, farm advisers and researchers on-demand.

So if you need the latest information on topics such as: summer crop agronomy, early sown sorghum, cereal diseases, controlling feathertop Rhodes grass, evaluating dual purpose crops or even managing your exposure to grain markets and counter party risk, you can tune in at a time and place that suits you.

GRDC Grower Relations Manager Richard Holzknecht said more than 30 Queensland and NSW-focused webinars – covering a broad range of research and farm business topics – were now available on the past events section of the GRDC website.

“Restrictions on face-to-face events meant this year, the GRDC events were delivered online, which allowed us to record them and make them widely available to industry,” Mr Holzknecht said.

“We understand this year has come with unique challenges so we are doing what we can to ensure growers and advisers have access to the latest research to help inform their decision making.”

“There is a huge range of topics, all carefully chosen by industry-based, regional committees to ensure we showcased research that answered growers most pressing questions, so I encourage people to check out the information,” he said.

A full list of northern webinars, along with links to the associated research papers, is available on the past events section.

Particular topics that may be of interest to growers this month include:

  • Early sown sorghum: Impact on water use efficiency, implications for subsequent crops and the pros and cons of sowing early or late to beat the heat.
  • Mungbean agronomy: The yield gap and what you need to do for profitable production.
  • Diseases: Rotations to reduce the pathogen burden, disease in 2020 and fungicide resistance.
  • Grain marketing: Managing your exposure and counter party risk.
  • Feathertop Rhodes grass: Weed management and control strategies.
  • Summer crops: The role of summer crops in western regions, strategies to reduce risk and optimise benefits.
