The City Budget will invest $243 million to continue to nurture the ‘green behind the gold’, while protecting and enhancing the Gold Coast as one of Australia’s most biodiverse cities.

Substantial increases in funding towards conservation and the environment (up 64% to $59.5 million) as well as our parks, natural areas and open spaces (up 11% to $167 million) reflect the expectations of the community.

“When asked about their priorities for this budget, Gold Coasters responded in record numbers (more than 6100 survey responses) and they made it clear they strongly value the environment,” said Mayor Tom Tate.

“In 2023-24, we will focus on improving our waterways, hinterland reserves and beaches. The Our Natural City Strategy 2032 is a key driver behind the work we do.

“Land care groups and volunteers work tirelessly to care for our flora and fauna. This budget will support them as we invest in our 758km of bush trails and 171km of navigable waterways.
