National Parks and Wildlife Service are continuing their hazard reduction program across the southern ranges region with up to six burns planned from Thursday 20 April, weather permitting.
The first planned burns are scheduled for tomorrow (20 April) in Minjary National Park, northwest of Tumut and Bobundara Nature Reserve, south of Cooma.
Over the weekend and into next week the following burns are also planned for the region at:
- Tinderry Nature Reserve
- Kosciuszko National Park (east, near Numbla Vale)
- Keverstone National Park
- Quidong Nature Reserve.
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is taking advantage of the forecast favourable conditions to continue to undertake these burns that will treat around 2,900 hectares of bushland.
All these burns aim to reduce the naturally accumulated fuel loads in the reserves and help protect neighbouring communities from future wildfires.
Tinderry Nature Reserve and parts of Keverstone National Park will be closed during burning operations.
There may be additional closures in place during these burns so visitors must check NPWS Alerts before heading to these reserves for up-to-date information.
Smoke will be visible in the vicinity of the burns and motorists are advised to drive to conditions.
All NPWS hazard reduction burns are coordinated with the NSW Rural Fire Service to ensure the impact on the community is assessed at a regional level.
