Open House Melbourne, an annual celebration of architecture, design and form, is coming to Hobsons Bay with 10 local sites taking part in what is sure to appeal to locals and visitors alike.
Mayor of Hobsons Bay Councillor Jonathon Marsden said Open House Melbourne, which is on 27 and 28 July, was a great opportunity to highlight Hobsons Bay’s architecturally and culturally significant buildings.
“Hobsons Bay is home to a unique blend of history and culture, and from looking at the program, we are able to make a great contribution to the Open House Melbourne Weekend,” Cr Marsden said.
“Open House Melbourne showcases architecture and explores good design decisions and the impact they can make.
“The ‘Open House’ concept has actually spread overseas with groups around the world running programs that educate and empower communities about architecture and design.”
Cr Marsden was excited to see the variety of Hobsons Bay buildings being showcased in the event.
“We’ve got the traditional historic buildings of Williamstown and the engineering marvel that is the Spotswood Pumping Station, combined with mid-century icons such as the Council Chamber in Altona,” Cr Marsden said.
“From the Australian Islamic Centre to Modscape in Brooklyn, it really highlights the diversity of Hobsons Bay’s built form and some of the amazing architects and designers that have played a role in shaping our city.
“I encourage people to take the opportunity to explore our city in a different light.”
