Hodgman and Rockliff’s cruel school cuts in action

Tasmanian Labor
  • Four jobs cut at Tasmanian eSchools
  • $450 million in cuts will hurt students, parents, community
  • Hodgman and Rockliff must come clean
  • Will Hodgman and Jeremy Rockliff must tell teachers, principals, students and their families how their $450 million slash and burn agenda will impact Tasmanian schools.

Shadow Minister for Education and Early Years, Josh Willie, said revelations that the Tasmanian eSchool was being forced to shed four full time positions showed the Liberal cuts were underway.

“Teachers and staff at the eSchools do an amazing job for students living in remote or regional Tasmania and for young people with complex needs,” Mr Willie said.

“It’s an absolute disgrace that the Liberals have targeted these vital services as part of their cruel cuts.

“The Liberals promised no frontline services would be cut. What could be more frontline than Tasmanian teachers?

“While Tasmanian schools are waiting for their funding allocations for 2020, Will Hodgman and Jeremy Rockliff are desperately cutting jobs and services to pay for their broken Budget.”

It is estimated that the Education Department will face at least $120 million in cuts over the next four years.

“Jeremy Rockliff needs to come out today and tell Tasmanians exactly where the cuts are coming from,” Mr Willie said.

“Tasmanians deserve better than this cruel, chaotic Government.”
