A man has been charged with dangerous driving following a hoon meet up in April which led to a car colliding with a spectator.
Police will allege the man was driving a blue Holden Commodore on the evening of Saturday 23 April at the intersection of Derrimut Drive and Grimes Court in Derrimut.
It’s alleged the man was performing burnouts in front of a group of spectators, before colliding with a person watching on causing them to be thrown backwards.
No reports have been made to police about the person who was allegedly hit, and they or anyone else with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
A search warrant was executed at a residential property in Tarneit this morning, where a 19-year-old man was arrested.
He has since been charged with reckless conduct endangering life and serious injury, careless driving, driving in a dangerous manner, reckless driving, fail to have proper control, improper use of a vehicle, drive a prohibited vehicle, unregistered vehicle and unsafe vehicle.
The Tarneit man was bailed to appear at the Sunshine Magistrates’ Court on 12 December.
A second search warrant was conducted this morning at a commercial property in Derrimut, where a blue Holden commodore was seized.
The investigation forms part of the state-wide Operation Achilles, which has led to charges being laid against more than 240 of Melbourne’s worst hoon drivers and the impounding of more than 150 hoon vehicles since July last year.
As part of Operation Achilles, police saturate hoon hotspots ensuring they can rapidly respond to high-risk driving events.
Police will continue to take appropriate action, including making arrests and seizing vehicles on the night, however this is only the beginning of the work underway to keep dangerous drivers off Victorian roads.
When arrests are not made on the spot, full scale investigations are launched into those involved, including organisers, participants, and spectators.
