Iconic Tasmanian heritage sites readying for re-opening

Elise Archer,Minister for Heritage

The Tasmanian Government understands the importance of the State’s heritage listed sites and we have been working hard to support them through the challenges posed by COVID-19.

I am delighted to announce that after 105 days of closure, the Port Arthur Historic Site and Cascades Female Factory Historic Site will reopen from Friday, 3 July 2020.

Our Government has been working closely with the Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority (PAHSMA) during the COVID-19 shutdowns and have done all we can to ensure their sustained recovery once these important historic sites reopen to the public.

I am also pleased to hear that the site will offer free entry for all children and a ‘Ticket of Leave’ for every ticketed person which will allow free re-entry to all PAHSMA sites for two years.

Unless Public Health advice dictates otherwise, the Port Arthur and Cascades Female Factory Historic Sites will be open daily from 10am to 4pm from 3 July, with the Coal Mines Historic Site set to re-open from Monday, 15 June.

The national award-winning Port Arthur tourist site is one of Tasmania’s most iconic visitor attractions and as Minister for Heritage I am pleased to hear that people will be able to visit again soon.
