Iconic walking and cycling trail right here on Peninsula

MPSLogo_News.jpg

Imagine a 130 kilometre off-road walking and cycling trail known the world over, traversing coast and hinterland right here on the Peninsula.

Imagine a trail that gets you where you need to go and where you want to be, connecting local communities, schools and businesses.

Imagine a trail taking you to the Peninsula’s vibrant food, wine and art scene with opportunities for eco-tourism, cultural and historic tours.

The Peninsula Trail will connect to Melbourne’s Bay Trail, taking cyclists from the mouth of the Yarra to the entrance of Port Phillip Bay, with a second route taking cyclists along Western Port to Balnarring.

The trail will connect many of the Peninsula’s towns to a network of safe and accessible walking and cycling paths, creating ’20-minute neighbourhoods’, supporting community well-being and reducing reliance on cars.

It is estimated the Peninsula Trail will generate $111 million for the local economy and support 267 jobs during construction phase, providing a significant boost to our businesses.

Much of the proposed 130km Peninsula Trail is already in place. To connect the missing links we need $45 million from the Victorian and Commonwealth governments. Council has already committed $10 million to this project, the Victorian Government $3 million and the Commonwealth Government $4 million.

Help us make the Mornington Peninsula one of the world’s great walking and cycling destinations.

Join us in shouting out to local election candidates for Nepean, Mornington and Hastings. Shout out for the Peninsula Trail because…we can’t just imagine!

Quotes attributable to Mayor, Anthony Marsh:

“Council has already committed $10 million to this project, and we are thankful for the contribution from the Victorian and Commonwealth governments so far. To complete the 130-kilometre Peninsula Trail, we need another $45 million in funding.”

“For our local community, the trail will create more connected towns and neighbourhoods – providing safe off-road options to walk or ride to school, work, the shops or a friend’s home. It will reduce our reliance on cars with environmental, health, and wellbeing benefits.”

“The trail will not just be an asset to the Peninsula – it will be an attraction for visitors from everywhere to come to Victoria to walk, hike, cycle, and stay.”

“The Peninsula Trail will offer exciting opportunities for eco-tourism and our vibrant food, wine and art scene. There will be opportunities for tours of cultural and historic sites, guided walks and cycling tours. There will also be many possibilities for the entrepreneurs in our community to build and grow their businesses.”
