Improvement works carried out to Pound and Rehoming Centre

Griffith City Council has recently carried out works to the Pound and Rehoming Centre to help provide a better facility with improved procedures related to receiving animals after normal office hours.

NSW RSPCA was part of the process sharing ideas on how to improve the safety and welfare of animals dropped off at the Pound after hours.

As a result, self-locking doors have been installed for all the existing dog drop-off points and six similar new drop-off points created for cats.

These changes were made to prevent more than one animal ending up in one holding pen which could end in serious injury to animals.

Clear instructions on the self-locking doors make it simple and very user-friendly and members of the community are encouraged to work with Council by utilising the drop-off points in accordance with these instructions.

Minor internal changes to the layout of cat drop-off area has also provided a safer environment for both staff and the animals they deal with.

Director Sustainable Development, Phil Harding said, “Council takes the welfare of animals in their care seriously and endeavours to use best practice methods and constantly improves the service where possible.”
