Indigo Shire Council endorsed two key draft strategies at Tuesday night’s Council Meeting focused on improving the wellbeing of children and families in the Shire.
Indigo Shire Mayor, Councillor Bernard Gaffney, said the draft Early Years Strategy 2019-2024 and draft Play Parks Review and Strategy 2019-2029 are fundamental documents that will guide Council decision-making on the future of the Shire’s youngest community members.
“Our vision is that all children in Indigo Shire are healthy, happy and feel safe in their community,” Cr Gaffney said.
“With a growing population it has never been more important to ensure we can deliver services and infrastructure to meet the needs of our community.
“The Early Years Strategy aims to strengthen our existing early years services and ensure every child is equal and has access to services and programs that provide the best learning and development outcomes.
“The Play Parks Review and Strategy looks at an equally important part of a healthy and happy childhood – play. It recommends new play spaces in Chiltern and Yackandandah and the need to improve pathways and accessibility for all play spaces across the Shire.
“It also identifies key features that the community want to see in new play spaces, from water and nature play through to improved facilities like toilets, BBQs and seating.”
