INDIA AND INDONESIA VISITS REINFORCE VITAL ROLE OF EDUCATION

Universities Australia Chief Executive Catriona Jackson will join Education Minister Jason Clare and a delegation of Australian higher education leaders in India and Indonesia this week to promote the central role of education to both bilateral relationships.

“Education is central to Australia’s strategic and economic relationship with India and Indonesia,” Ms Jackson said.

“Our governments are supporting and promoting the key role universities are playing in taking the relationship to new levels.

“These visits lay the foundation for the future and underscore the significant opportunities before our countries – opportunities created by education, research, our institutions and our deep people-to-people connections.

“We support India’s ambitions to educate 500 million people by 2035, and Australia’s universities are here to help deliver this nation-changing vision.

“Our universities are just as ready to continue collaborating with Indian and Indonesian institutions in research endeavours that respond to the biggest challenges facing our nations, our region and the world – from climate change and food security to economic and geopolitical stabilisation.

“After all, education brings opportunity and advancement – delivering a bright and prosperous future for our countries and our people.”
