International Boarders to Return to Darwin

Haileybury Rendall School

Darwin is getting ready to welcome an influx of international and domestic students to the city with the opening of a new boarding house at Haileybury Rendall School. This comes as the school was named Boarding School of the Year at the prestigious Australian Education Awards 2022 held in Sydney on Friday 12th, August. The modern, 60-bed facility will provide a home away from home for students from Years 7 to 12. As well as providing safe and secure accommodation for students from across South-East Asia, the new boarding house will welcome students from rural and remote parts of the Northern Territory and from other northern states. They will no longer have to travel south to other major cities to get a high-quality private education. “This is an extremely exciting moment for Haileybury Rendall School,” says Mr Andrew McGregor, HRS Principal. “After the challenges of the past few years, it is very rewarding to be able to welcome international students to our school. They bring many different life experiences and perspectives with them that will enrich our community and help our school continue to grow. “We know they will feel very at home in our new, world-class boarding facility. “Young people from across the Northern Territory will also be able to share our new boarding house while making the most of the many educational and extra-curricular opportunities available every day at Haileybury Rendall School.” The new Boarding House includes male and female accommodation and single and dual occupancy rooms.

The male and female residences are connected via common living areas where students can study or socialise with their fellow boarders. Each room has a shared en-suite bathroom and toilet, desk, air conditioning and WiFi. Darwin’s warm climate mean heating isn’t required. A large, modern cafeteria with a broad international menu and a dining area are available and students can also enjoy HRS’s sports facilities, including a swimming pool, basketball courts and recreational ovals. The school has a comprehensive extra-curricular program and a health and wellbeing program that ensures students focus on their health, build strong relationships, feel connected to the community inside and outside the school and build leadership skills. “Darwin is a great place to live and learn and being a boarder at Haileybury Rendall School is a unique opportunity to develop independence and resilience and to make lasting friendships,” says Mr McGregor. “Our school will be enriched by the arrival of motivated and determined students from across other countries and from across the Northern Territory. Like our current students, they will benefit from HRS’s great teachers, our robust learning programs and our welcoming community. This is another landmark moment in our school’s history and growth.”
