Investigation continues into Wyndham Vale attempted murder

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad are continuing to appeal for information as part of their investigation into an incident in Wyndham Vale last year.

About 2.20am on Thursday, 8 July 2021 four people attended a residential property on Ribblesdale Avenue, Wyndham Vale.

Police also believe a fifth person remained in a vehicle outside the address.

The four people forced their way into the property via a rear door and seriously assaulted a 45-year-old male occupant.

He sustained serious and significant upper body injuries including a gunshot and multiple stab wounds and was subsequently conveyed to hospital for surgery.

A family of three adults and five children were home at the time of the incident, however the 45-year-old man was the only one physically injured.

On 17 July, 2021 investigators recovered a stolen 2015 black Toyota Kluger, which had been abandoned in MacPherson Street, Footscray.

The vehicle had been stolen during an unrelated burglary in Aintree on 30 June, however police believe it was the car subsequently used in the Wyndham Vale incident.

On 3 December, 2021 Armed Crime Squad detectives charged a 19-year-old Rockbank man with attempted murder in relation to the incident, with a 20-year-old St Albans man also charged with attempted murder on 9 March, 2022.

Both men are currently remanded in custody.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing and police are again appealing for anyone with information about the matter to come forward.

Detectives are today releasing a digital composite image of a man they believe was involved in the incident and are looking to identify.

They are also releasing CCTV and images of the black Toyota Kluger in the hopes someone can provide information about the movements of the car after it was stolen on 30 June 2021 and particularly on the night of 8 July, 2021.

Footage of that vehicle on Haines Drive also shows two people getting into the car.

Detectives are keen to identify anyone who may have come into contact with that vehicle over that period.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.auExternal Link

Quotes attributable to Detective Inspector Mark Hatt, Armed Crime Squad:

“This was a violent incident, involving a number of weapons and the use of a firearm. The victim is very lucky to have survived his injuries and it is fortunate that no one else in the house was injured.

“Although two people have been charged, the investigation remains ongoing and we believe there are people out there who can provide further information regarding who else was involved.

“Police are particularly keen to speak to anyone who can identify the male shown in the image, or has information regarding the movement of the black Toyota Kluger.

“We do believe the incident was targeted and hope that there is someone out there with information to assist in progressing this investigation.”
