JACET Arrest – Palmerston

In a joint operation, Detectives and Federal Agents from the Northern Territory Police and the Australian Federal Police executed a search warrant on a residence in Palmerston on 16 February 2024. This operation was carried out in relation to online child exploitation offences, and a 38-year-old man was arrested.

During the execution of the warrant, electronic devices belonging to the individual were discovered at the residence. Subsequent to the search and a thorough review of the devices, the man was taken into custody.

He has been charged with the following offences:

  • S474.22A – Possess or control child abuse material
  • S474.22 – Access child abuse material
  • S474.22 – Transmit child abuse material
  • S474.22 – Solicit child abuse material

The charges are a result of a comprehensive investigation into online activities that involve child exploitation material. The Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (JACET) remain committed to taking decisive actions against those involved in such heinous offences.

The man was remanded and expected to appear before Darwin Local Court today.

Detective Sergeant Mark Cronin said, “The safety and well-being of our community, especially our children, are of paramount importance. The Northern Territory Police, along with our federal counterparts, will continue to work diligently to ensure the prosecution of individuals engaged in such criminal activities.”
