Kalgoorlie Police seized ten motorcycles last weekend after an operation targeting the dangerous use of registered motorcycles and the illegal use of unregistered off-road motorcycles, in the Boulder and Kalgoorlie area.
Local police have received numerous complaints from the public in relation to the activity, which puts road users, the community and the riders themselves at significant risk.
Police Air wing assisted local police, utilizing a Police Air wing aircraft and newly acquired drones. This allowed police to identify, track and apprehend riders that chose to ride on side-streets and footpaths.
The penalties for riding bikes on local streets are significant and can include fines, suspension of licences, impounding and permanent confiscation of motorcycles. The owner may also be responsible for the storage and disposal costs of the motorcycle.
As a result of the operation, seven people were charged with a total of 15 offences.
Members of the community can be reassured that these operations DO NOT target responsible people, lawfully riding motorcycles in designated areas.
Kalgoorlie Police thank members of the community for providing information that assists with the apprehension of people putting the community at risk.
Officer in Charge of Kalgoorlie Police, Senior Sergeant Jason Blaine says his team have no tolerance for individuals putting the community at risk.
“Riders will not use the streets as their playground and Kalgoorlie Police will continue to target this type of reckless behaviour.
We will continue to work in partnership with other units within the WA Police Force to ensure a safer community in Kalgoorlie and surrounds.”
