Councillor Karen Egan was elected Mayor of Nillumbik Shire Council for a second term at Wednesday’s Special Meeting of Council.
Councillor Peter Clarke was elected Deputy Mayor.
Cr Egan has been a resident in Nillumbik for almost 30 years and a Nillumbik Councillor since 2016. Cr Clarke was also elected to Council in 2016 and has been an Eltham resident for 29 years.
Cr Egan thanked her fellow Councillors including outgoing Deputy Mayor Bruce Ranken and fellow rural ward Councillor Jane Ashton, Council staff, family, friends and the community for their support in her first year as Mayor.
“Our Councillors have worked hard to achieve an amazing amount in this past year. We will continue to work for our community in our final year of this term,” Cr Egan said.
Cr Egan has once again renounced the Mayor’s vehicle and said the next year would focus on environmental issues along with good economic management and completing the balance of the Council Plan.
She said goals would include pursuing a solar farm at the former Plenty tip site, reviewing Council’s climate change policy, improving recycling processes and reducing the amount of e-waste going to landfill, pest control, particularly deer, and completing the Green Wedge Management Plan.
Cr Clarke said he was honoured to be elected Deputy Mayor.
“It’s a privilege to serve this community and I look forward to working with Cr Egan and my fellow Councillors over the next year,” Cr Clarke said.
