Kempsey Volunteers Recognised And Women Are Next

Kempsey Shire Council

Two outstanding Kempsey volunteers have been recognised through the NSW volunteer awards, at the same time as the community is asked to suggest nominees for the 2025 NSW Woman of the Year Awards.

This morning, outside Kempsey Library, Mayor Leo Hauville had the honour of presenting NSW Volunteer Awards to John Roydhouse from the NSW Justices Association and Marie Purkis of the Riding for the Disabled Association. Both John and Marie exemplify the essence of community spirit, going above and beyond to support some of the most vulnerable members of our society.

Mayor Hauville praised their contributions, stating, “It’s people like John and Marie who quietly lead the way, reminding us all of the power of service and dedication to others. Their commitment reflects the very best of our community and should inspire us all to do more.”

While we celebrate these volunteers, we are also reminded of the many remarkable women in our community who deserve recognition. Nominations are now open for the NSW Woman of the Year Awards 2025. These awards highlight women who are role models—those who challenge inequality, drive change, and inspire us all with their achievements.

If you know a woman who fits this description, the NSW Government is seeking nominations in the following categories:

  • Premier’s NSW Woman of Excellence
  • NSW Aboriginal Woman of the Year
  • NSW Community Hero
  • NSW Regional Woman of the Year
  • NSW Young Woman of the Year

New this year is the Ones to Watch category, which will recognize 10 rising stars aged 7 to 15 years old.

Nominations close at 11:59 p.m. on 15 September 2024, and the winners will be celebrated during the NSW Woman of the Year Awards ceremony on Thursday, 6 March 2025, as part of NSW Women’s Week.

Do you know a woman or young girl who embodies these qualities? Nominate them today to ensure they receive the recognition they deserve.
